Courses after PUC Science, by combination.

Courses after PUC Science depend on the combination. Engineering needs Physics, Chemistry and Maths, which PCMB, PCMC and PCME all have. Medicine, dentistry and AYUSH need Biology, so only PCMB. Beyond those, any Science student can go into B.Sc, BCA, architecture, pharmacy, agriculture or defence courses, each through its own entry route.

Courses that run on marks

Not every course needs a big entrance exam. Many B.Sc and BCA programmes admit on 2nd PUC marks, and some use CUET or their own test. These courses are usually quicker to start and cheaper to study. They are a sound route for a child who wants a degree in a subject they like without a ranking race.

Choosing between the routes

Start from your child, not from the list.

  • Who loves solving and building? Engineering, computing, architecture.
  • Who loves Biology and people? Medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, biotechnology.
  • Who loves understanding why? B.Sc and research, then M.Sc.
  • Who wants uniformed service? NDA and other defence entries.

Then look at the cost, the commute and the college's record for that course. A modest college with a strong department beats a famous name that does not teach your child's subject well.

What the second year looks like

Second PUC is a heavy year. The board exam falls in February and March, and the results arrive in April. KCET, NEET and JEE Main fall close to these dates. A student who is preparing for an entrance exam is carrying board preparation and an entrance syllabus at once. Starting the entrance preparation in 1st PUC is the main way to make that year lighter.

For NEET specifically, see how to prepare for NEET from 11th.

More about each combination

PCMB career options goes deeper into medicine and engineering from PCMB. PCMB vs PCMC helps if your child is still choosing. Commerce courses after PUC covers the other stream.

Questions

Questions parents ask.

What courses can I do after PUC Science PCMB?

Engineering through JEE Main or KCET, MBBS, BDS and AYUSH through NEET, B.Sc, pharmacy, agriculture, allied health and defence entries.

What courses can I do after PUC Science PCMC?

Engineering through JEE Main or KCET, B.Sc and BCA, computer science degrees, B.Arch through NATA, and NDA. PCMC cannot enter NEET, because it has no Biology.

Can a Science student do commerce or arts degrees?

Often yes. Many B.Com, BBA and humanities programmes admit Science students, but the rule differs by college, so check.

Which entrance exams should a Science student know?

NEET for medicine, JEE Main and KCET for engineering, NATA for architecture, and NDA for defence. CUET is used by some central institutes for B.Sc and other courses.

Is an entrance exam required for B.Sc?

Not always. Many B.Sc programmes admit on 2nd PUC marks, while some use CUET or their own test.

When should entrance preparation start?

Ideally in 1st PUC, so that the second year is revision, not new learning.
